You may want to read part-1 of this article to aid your understanding. (The Six Psychological Needs of Man and God’s Provision (1) – Feast of light)
We will conclude this article today by exploring the remaining three psychological needs of man.

4. Love and Connection
The fourth psychological need is love and connection. Love is the essence that binds our hearts, heals our wounds, and awakens our deepest sense of belonging. It teaches us compassion, invites connection, and gives meaning to our existence. Without love, we remain fragmented, but through it, we discover wholeness, purpose, and the beauty of being fully human together.
Every person desires to be known, loved, and accepted. This need, when unmet, leads to loneliness, brokenness, and despair. Many try to fill this void through unhealthy relationships or shallow connections. Yet the deepest need for love and connection can only be met in God.
Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” NKJV.
This is the highest expression of love, one that is unconditional, sacrificial, and eternal. Human love may fail, but God’s love never does. When we experience His love, we are then able to build healthy relationships with others because His love flows through us.
Jesus also emphasised love as the central command for His followers. In John 13:34 He said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.” NKJV.
This means that the love and connection we long for are found in Christ and then extended to others. The church becomes a family where this divine love is shared and experienced, creating a community of genuine connection.

5. Growth
The fifth need is growth. Every person desires to improve, to become better, and to develop in different aspects of life.
The world often celebrates the “growth mindset” because deep within every human is a desire to evolve, improve, and reach new heights. Whether in knowledge, character, relationships, finances or purpose, people find fulfilment in progress. Growth reflects life, and expansion brings hope. We are wired to pursue what stretches us beyond limitations and into greater impact
Without growth, life feels stagnant and unproductive. However, the highest form of growth is not physical, emotional, intellectual, material or financial but spiritual.
Second Peter 3:18 exhorts, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” NKJV.
Dear reader, growth in Christ involves increasing in grace, understanding His Word, and being transformed into His likeness. Spiritual growth is an ongoing journey that continues throughout life. The apostle Paul expressed this desire in Philippians 3:10, “that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings.” NKJV.
The early disciples are an example of growth. They began as ordinary men with limited understanding, but as they walked with Christ and were filled with the Holy Spirit, they grew in faith, courage, and wisdom. Similarly, our growth in Christ is progressive and produces eternal fruit. Without Christ, growth remains shallow, but with Him it brings true transformation.

6. Contribution
The final need is contribution. Many people desire to live as contributors, not just consumers of life. Whether through mentoring others, supporting charitable causes, or volunteering time and skills, they seek to make a meaningful impact. This pursuit reflects a deep longing to add value, uplift others, and leave a legacy of compassion, generosity, and purpose that echoes beyond their own story.
Every human desires to make a difference, to give something of value beyond themselves. A self-centred life feels empty and meaningless. Contribution gives life profound meaning, especially when it impacts others.
In the kingdom of God, contribution is expressed through service. Jesus taught in Matthew 20:26–28 that whoever desires to become great must be a servant, just as He came not to be served but to serve.
Dear reader, in alignment with the teachings of Jesus Christ, contribution also means showing up within your family—lifting your wife when she feels low, encouraging your husband to rise again when life declares defeat, and guiding your children toward their divine destiny despite the hurdles they face. It’s the quiet, consistent support that builds strength, restores hope, and nurtures purpose in those closest to you
Contribution therefore means using our time, gifts, and resources to bless others and advance the kingdom of God.
Paul reminds believers in 1 Corinthians 15:58, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” NKJV.
Contribution in Christ is never wasted because it carries eternal significance. Unlike worldly contribution that fades with time, service done for Christ has eternal reward.
Final Remark
The six psychological needs of man are real, and they shape much of human behaviour. People naturally seek security, variety, significance, love and connection, growth, and contribution. However, when these needs are pursued apart from God, they never fully satisfy. The world can offer temporary substitutes, but they leave the heart empty.
In Christ, these needs are not only met but transformed into a higher purpose.
- Security is found in God’s unchanging presence.
- Variety is discovered in the seasons and purposes God ordains.
- Significance comes from being a child of God.
- Love and connection are rooted in the eternal love of Christ.
- Growth takes place as we mature in grace and truth.
- Contribution becomes eternal as we serve selflessly and with humility in His kingdom.
John 15:5 reminds us that without Christ we can do nothing, but when we abide in Him, every need is fulfilled in a way that glorifies God and brings lasting satisfaction. As believers, we are called to stop chasing empty substitutes and instead abide in the One who alone meets the deepest needs of the human heart.
