There are many biblical principles and spiritual keys that God gives in Scripture that can move a person from the prison to the palace, from the pit to purpose, and from obscurity into destiny. Joseph’s life is a powerful example of this. David, Daniel, Esther, Ruth, and many others also walked journeys where God elevated them in His divine timing.

However, many of those spiritual principles are built upon certain foundational truths that believers must first establish in their lives. Dear friend, God often entrusts greater responsibility, influence, and opportunity to people who have first developed godly character, discipline, and faithfulness in ordinary places and in the secret place.

Many people desire elevation, but few understand that preparation usually happens in hidden seasons before public manifestation.

These four foundational biblical truths are essential for anyone who desires to grow, mature, and fulfil God’s purpose for their life.

1. Be Faithful in Small Tasks

Luke 16:10; “He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much.” NKJV

One of the greatest misconceptions people have is thinking that greatness begins when they finally receive a big opportunity. Biblically, greatness usually begins with faithfulness in small and unnoticed assignments.

Before Joseph governed Egypt, he faithfully served in Potiphar’s house and even in prison. Before David became king, he faithfully cared for sheep in the wilderness. Before Elisha carried a prophetic mantle, he served Elijah faithfully.

God watches how people handle little things.

Some people pray sincerely for influence, leadership, and open doors, yet neglect the small responsibilities already in front of them. They want platforms but avoid preparation. They desire promotion but resist process. And in God’s kingdom, process comes before manifestation.

Faithfulness in small things includes:

  • studying seriously even when no one is watching
  • serving faithfully in church without needing recognition
  • Being faithful to your family, spouse and children without seeking accolade
  • working diligently at your job even when supervisors are absent
  • managing money wisely even when income is small
  • treating people well regardless of status, race or culture
  • showing consistency, discipline and integrity in private life

Colossians 3:23 says:

“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.” NKJV

This means you should not work with excellence only when people are watching or applauding you. The true audience of your work is God Himself.

Dear friend, remember this: “Small tasks are often divinely orchestrated training grounds for greater assignments.”

2. Avoid Procrastination

Proverbs 13:4; “The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made rich.” NKJV

Procrastination is one of the greatest enemies of destiny. Many people have dreams, ideas, callings, and goals, yet they delay action repeatedly until opportunities pass them by.

Delayed effort often becomes missed opportunity.

The Bible consistently teaches diligence and urgency concerning responsibility. Ecclesiastes 9:10 says “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might.” NKJV

This speaks of diligence and commitment.

This means believers should approach responsibilities with intentionality, energy, and seriousness.

Many people remain stuck not because they lack potential, but because they constantly postpone what they know they should do.

Some delay:

  • starting the business
  • applying for the opportunity
  • studying consistently
  • developing skills
  • reconciling relationships
  • Praying and reading God’s Word
  • obeying God’s instruction
  • dealing with destructive habits

Procrastination often disguises itself as comfort, fear, perfectionism, or waiting for the “perfect time.” Yet many times, growth begins when a person takes responsible action despite uncertainty.

The sluggard in Proverbs is constantly warned because laziness produces stagnation.

Proverbs 24:33 to 34 says: “A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest; so shall your poverty come like a prowler.” NKJV

This does not only speak of financial poverty. It can also refer to wasted potential, lost years, spiritual stagnation, and unrealised destiny.

Dear friend, people who rise in life learn to act responsibly and consistently.

3. Keep Learning

Proverbs 1:5; “A wise man will hear and increase learning.” NKJV

One major characteristic of people who continue growing is that they never stop learning.

Diligent people are lifelong learners.

Daniel is a strong biblical example. Though God certainly gave him unrivalled spiritual wisdom, Daniel was also trained, educated, observant, and disciplined. Because of this, he excelled above others.

Daniel 1:20 says “And in all matters of wisdom and understanding about which the king examined them, he found them ten times better.” NKJV

Many people pray for elevation while neglecting personal growth. Yet God opens doors for people who have prepared themselves through learning and development.

Learning includes:

  • reading Scripture consistently
  • developing practical skills
  • asking wise questions
  • receiving correction humbly
  • learning from mentors
  • improving communication
  • growing in emotional maturity
  • understanding your assignment better

A teachable spirit is critical for destiny.

Pride stops growth because proud people think they already know enough. Humble people continue learning and improving.

Proverbs 12:1 says “Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge.” NKJV

In modern life, opportunities often increase for those who are willing to grow, study, and improve consistently.

A believer should not only grow spiritually but also develop wisdom, discipline, and competence in the areas God has called them to.

4. Do Your Best Unto God

1 Corinthians 10:31; “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” NKJV

One of the most important truths you must understand is that life is ultimately lived before God.

Many people work only for applause, recognition, validation, or human approval. But biblical excellence flows from a desire to honour God.

This changes the motivation behind everything.

A believer studies well because they honour God.

A leader leads with integrity because they honour God.

A pastor gives careful attention to the sheep under their care because they honour God.

A business owner acts honestly because they honour God.

A musician practises diligently because they honour God.

A parent raises children faithfully because they honour God.

When people work only for human praise, inconsistency often follows, because the day the applause stops, they either stop doing the work God has given them or do it with less care, having linked their divine mandate to human approval. But when work becomes worship unto God, excellence develops even in hidden places, even in the absence of human commendation.

Joseph remained excellent in prison when nobody celebrated him.

David worshipped faithfully in the wilderness before anyone knew his name.

Jesus Himself worked faithfully before entering public ministry.

Doing your best unto God means:

  • maintaining integrity even when compromise is easier
  • giving effort even when unnoticed
  • refusing mediocrity
  • remaining disciplined in hidden seasons
  • pursuing excellence with humility

Proverbs 22:29 says: “Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings.” NKJV

Dear friend, excellence creates room for influence and opportunity.

Final Remark

Many people desire the palace but reject the process. Yet Scripture shows repeatedly that God prepares people before He promotes them.

Faithfulness in small tasks builds trustworthiness.

Avoiding procrastination develops discipline and momentum.

Continuous learning increases wisdom and capacity.

Doing your best unto God builds excellence and integrity.

These four foundational truths may appear simple, but they are powerful principles that position people for growth, influence, and divine purpose.

God often elevates those who remain diligent, humble, teachable, and faithful even when nobody notices them.

Dear friend, the journey from the pit to purpose is rarely instant. But those who build their lives upon biblical principles position themselves for God’s timing, favour, and destiny.
