Understanding God’s Appointed Times
One of the most important yet often overlooked principles in the Christian life is the principle of divine timing. Many of us as believers understand God’s promises but struggle with His timing. We often know what God has promised, but we become discouraged because we do not understand when He has appointed that promise to come to pass.
The Bible consistently teaches that God not only has a purpose for every believer, but He also has a timetable for every purpose. Let this thought settle in your mind for a few minutes; “God has a timetable for every purpose”
God is never early, and He is never late. He works according to His perfect wisdom and sovereign timing.
Ecclesiastes 3:1; “To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven.” NKJV
Notice that Solomon does not simply say there is a purpose. He says there is a time for every purpose. Dear friend, purpose and timing are inseparable in God’s Kingdom.
A purpose fulfilled outside God’s timing can become as dangerous as a purpose never fulfilled.
God Works According to Appointed Times
Throughout Scripture we repeatedly encounter expressions such as “the set time,” “the fullness of the time,” and “when the Day of Pentecost had fully come.” These phrases reveal that God governs history according to His divine calendar.
Psalm 102:13; “You will arise and have mercy on Zion; For the time to favor her, Yes, the set time, has come.” NKJV
Notice the phrase, the set time.
God’s favour was always available, but there was an appointed moment for its full manifestation. There was a set time for that divine favour to speak in the life of Zion.
This is why I know dear friend, no matter what problem you are facing currently, provided you are a true covenant child of God, living in holiness before Him, God’s favour shall speak for you at the set-time, in Jesus Name. Amen
Likewise, the coming of Christ was not accidental.
Galatians 4:4; “But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law.” NKJV
Jesus did not come four hundred years earlier or one hundred years later.
He came precisely when God’s prophetic calendar reached its appointed moment.
God has a prophetic calendar for your life and when it has reached its appointed time, you will manifest the glory of God in you to the world, in Jesus Name. Amen
The same principle appears at Pentecost.
Acts 2:1; “When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.” NKJV
The Holy Spirit was poured out exactly when God’s appointed time arrived.
As humans, we occasionally confuse urgency with purpose.
Throughout Scripture, God demonstrates that He is never controlled by human urgency. He moves according to His eternal wisdom.
Waiting Is Often Part of God’s Preparation
One of the greatest misconceptions among believers is that waiting means God is inactive.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Waiting seasons are often preparation seasons.
Before Joseph sat upon Egypt’s throne, he spent years in slavery and prison.
Those years were not wasted. God was preparing Joseph’s character before entrusting him with influence.
Before David wore Israel’s crown, he spent years fleeing from Saul. During that period, God transformed David from a shepherd into a king.
Before Moses led Israel out of Egypt, he spent forty years in the wilderness. God was preparing the deliverer before releasing the assignment.
God is usually more interested in preparing the person than simply delivering the promise.
A promise received before character is developed can become destructive. God’s timing protects us from receiving responsibilities we are not yet mature enough to carry.
Divine Timing Requires Patience
One of the greatest expressions of faith is patient trust in God’s timing.
Hebrews 6:12; “That you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” NKJV
Notice that God’s promises are inherited through both faith and patience. Many believers have faith. Far fewer develop patience.
Faith believes God can. Patience trusts God’s timing. Faith says God will do it. Patience says God will do it at the right time. Both are necessary. We need to both in order to fulfil divine purpose
Abraham Learned to Wait: God promised Abraham a son.Years passed without the promise being fulfilled.Instead of waiting upon God’s timing, Abraham and Sarah attempted to fulfil God’s promise through human reasoning by producing Ishmael.Although God still fulfilled His covenant, Abraham’s impatience produced unnecessary pain.
The lesson is clear. Human effort can never improve upon God’s timing.
Whenever we force doors open that God has not opened, we often create complications that His perfect timing would have avoided.
