In the Bible, Jesus referred to his followers as “salt” and “light”. These are metaphors to represent the impact Christians are meant to have in the world; to illustrate their roles in the world.
That’s why it matters so much that they do the good works God gives them to do.

“We are the salt of the earth, mind you, not the sugar. Our ministry is to truly cleanse and not just to change the taste.”
Salt of the Earth: In Matthew 5:13 (NLT), Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavour? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.” In Matthew 5:13 (NKJV), the same verse reads, “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.”
Explanation: Salt serves several purposes. It enhances flavour, preserves, and adds value. Similarly, as believers, we are called to bring out the best in the world around us. Our lives should add flavour and preserve goodness, righteousness, and compassion in society. However, if we lose our distinctiveness, compromising our values, we lose our effectiveness in positively impacting the world.
To be salt of the earth as a believer you must;
- Desire Consecration: you cannot toy with sin anymore.
- Desire Holiness
- Be addicted to Prayer
- Be addicted to reading God’s word
- Keep your mouth from talking too much and speaking vanity and foul words
- You must die daily to the flesh
- Hot-Temper and boiling anger must go
Lastly for the unbeliever reading this article, you become salt of the earth first by accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.

- I reject that spirit of compromise to God’s word and cast it off my life, in Jesus Name

- Spirit of anger and wrath, my life does not belong to you, depart from me now, in the name of Jesus
- I shall be God’s salt on earth, showcasing the flavour of holiness, God’s power, and love to the world, in Jesus Name
I decree over someone reading this whose faith can take it, you will not sorrow again, in the name of Jesus. That spirit causing sorrow in your life has been removed now, in Jesus Name. Enter into a new realm of joy and peace, in Jesus Name.
