As a pastor, father, mother, husband, career professional or home-maker who believe in the Lordship of our Lord Jesus, if you are going to take territories, you must confront the territorial powers and familiar spirits that govern that territory.
A territory can be defined as a domain that is under the control of a ruler.
A territory can therefore be a family but this particular family domain can come under the control of demonic influences.
A territory can be your career. A career is also a domain. For example your nursing career or job can be under the control of men and women who themselves, whether they know it or not are being strongly influenced by territorial spirits.
Some-time ago I read an article of a born-again teacher in UK who was suspended from the body that regulates teaching in the UK simply because, he will not compromise his standard in God’s word and refer to a child by their sexual orientation. Or recently a Christian GP in the UK is being heavily sanctioned by the medical regulatory body for praying for his patient!
Certainly this is a strong indicator that territorial powers are actually the ones in control of the many professions if not all of them in the UK
A territory can be your financial domain, but the god of this world (the devil) controls it (Luke 4:5-6 where the devil took Jesus to a high mountain and showed Jesus the wealth of this world) and in vs 7, the devil says, “he will only give it those that worship him”.
So since we refuse to bow to him, if you are going to take the wealth that God has marked for you in this life, you will have to engage in warfare with the controlling powers of the wealth of the land
Another domain can be your health. God promises His children divine health but yet the enemy still oppresses your physical body with sickness and seemingly does not want to let go of your physical body. God has made provision for healing as a benefit for those who trust in Him. Many sicknesses are caused by demons (Luke 4:40) but not all, some are due to natural abnormalities in physiological, anatomical, and biochemical processes. So whether the sickness affecting you is due to demonic attack or due to natural abnormalities in the body, there is a provision for healing for His children but you have to enforce it by prayer. I decree over you that the fire of God will drive away that demon of sickness in your body and soul in the name of Jesus.
- Territories are first taken in the spirit realm
To take territories (and it will mean different things to believers, whether it your health, career, family), it first starts in the spirit realm.
You see a husband wanting family peace but ends up unintentionally having a serious disagreement with his wife even after buying her a diamond necklace 2 days later, then you think as a husband did I not just but her a necklace 2 days ago, this should make her happy for life! That is when you know the enemy is not scared of you buying your wife necklaces when the controlling powers are still holding on tightly to your home.
Or you are quarrelling with your boss or pastor for not promoting you, no sir, that won’t do until you take the battle in the spirit realm. Because what you don’t see is the veil of darkness the enemy has put over your life that despite your good efforts at work or in church so that no one will notice you. And it is only prayer that can tear down that veil of darkness stopping your destiny helpers from locating you.
Bible says do not be ignorant of the devices of the enemy (2nd Corinthians 2:11), meaning there are devices, strategies that the enemy has put in place on this earth that must be brought down before you can take up your territory
Ephesians 6:11-12; 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the [a]wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of [b]the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Brethren even though Jesus has given us the victory no doubt but we still have to wrestle the enemy to enforce the victory because he simply will not give up without a fight.
It’s amazing that the word Paul used to describe our confrontation with the powers of darkness in other to take up territories is the original Greek translation is the word called “Pale” which is translated to the word “wrestle”.
The English word “wrestle” does not give the Greek meaning of the word “Pale” justice. At that time when they “Pale” in bible times, it was a hazardous and brutal fight without any real ground rules like modern wrestling. The fighting will go on until someone surrenders or they perish! So when Paul wrote that, he was saying to believers either you fight to enforce your victory against these dark powers by putting on the whole amor of God or you suffer a life of continuous defeat even as a child of God.
2. As you attempt to take a territory for Christ, you must dislodge the controlling powers there (Acts 16:16-22).
In doing so or in the process of doing so there will be an uproar by the enemy, there may even be backlashes.
Acts 16:19-20; Her masters’ hopes of wealth were now shattered, so they grabbed Paul and Silas and dragged them before the authorities at the marketplace. 20 “The whole city is in an uproar because of these Jews!” they shouted to the city officials.
Paul cast out the demon from the young girl and the consequence was that her masters wealth was totally shattered. You see the enemy was using this young girl to put the city of Phillipi in spiritual bondage by her divination but her masters gained from this activity serious wealth from the inhabitants of this city.
-So when the demon controlling a city is dealt with, the effect is that their power or gains in that territory comes to an end.
-And so when the demons controlling a family is dealt with, then their gains and control over that family comes to an end.
-When the demons controlling a man’s health is dealt with, their gains and control over the man’s life through his health comes to an end.
-In dislodging these powers there may be an uproar, in this case they had Paul & Silas beaten and thrown into Jail but in the end, God gave them the victory.
Their uproar is usually a sign that they have been defeated and are going away in defeat.
In the new testament we are told that when Jesus cast out the demon from the epileptic boy, before the demon left the KJV would say the demon would cry out & “rent the boy sorely” or shake the boy horribly and then left (Mark 4:29a, Then the spirit screamed and threw the boy into another violent convulsion and left him)
So notice a pattern here similar to what Paul & Silas faced in Acts 16, that as the demon left the boy, it caused an uproar but left.
So when you engage in effective & fervent prayers to take territories, whatever that territory may be to you, it could be your health, could be your family, as the controlling demons leave, they may cause an uproar (things may seem to get worse), do not be disheartened by that, it is a sign they are leaving but continue in intense & efficient prayers till the victory is complete.
