The Danger of Running Ahead of God
Many believers miss God’s best because they confuse good opportunities with God’s opportunities. Not every open door is from God. Not every promotion is God’s promotion.
Not every relationship is God’s relationship. Not every ministry opportunity is God’s assignment.
This is why Proverbs teaches,
Proverbs 3:5-6; “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” NKJV
Direction involves both destination and timing. God not only knows where you should go.
He knows when you should go.
Waiting Does Not Mean Doing Nothing
Biblical waiting is active, not passive. While waiting for God’s timing, believers continue growing spiritually. They deepen their prayer life. They study God’s Word. They faithfully serve where God has already placed them. They develop wisdom, humility, integrity, and faithfulness.
Jesus spent approximately thirty years preparing for a public ministry that lasted only about three and a half years.
Preparation occupied far more of His earthly life than public ministry.
This teaches you and I that God values preparation because preparation determines sustainability.
God is a loving father, and He will never give you a blessing which will end up destroying you and the souls attached to you.
Recognising God’s Timing
How do believers recognise God’s timing?
–First, God’s timing never contradicts His Word. He will never ask you to violate Scripture in order to fulfil His purposes.
–Second, God’s timing is often accompanied by His peace. Colossians 3:15; “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts.” NKJV
The word “rule” carries the idea of acting as an umpire. The peace of Christ often confirms that we are walking within His will.
–Third, God’s timing is confirmed through the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit gives wisdom, conviction, and direction that always agrees with God’s Word.
-Fourth, God’s timing often becomes evident through His providence.
The Lord opens doors that no one can shut and closes doors that would ultimately distract us from His purposes.
Practical Application
Understanding divine timing changes the way we live. Instead of becoming frustrated by delays, we begin asking what God is developing within us during the waiting season.
Instead of comparing our journey with others, we trust that God’s timetable for our lives is unique. Instead of forcing opportunities through anxiety, manipulation, or impatience, we learn to wait with confidence.
Instead of assuming delay means denial, we recognise that God’s preparation often precedes His promotion.
Conclusion
●Divine timing is one of God’s greatest expressions of wisdom and love. Every promise He makes has an appointed season for its fulfilment. Every purpose He has ordained unfolds according to His perfect timetable.
●Our responsibility is not to force God’s hand but to faithfully walk with Him, trusting that His timing is always better than our own.
●The God who fulfilled His promise to Abraham, who sent His Son in the fullness of time, who poured out His Spirit on the Day of Pentecost, and who continues to order the steps of His children is the same God who holds your future.
●His promises for your life are certain. His timing for your life is perfect.
●When God’s appointed time arrives for your life, no force on earth or in hell can prevent His purpose for your life from being fulfilled.
