Throughout Scripture and throughout history, there have been men and women who, because of pride, human achievement, or worldly influence, believed they could oppose God, silence His Word, or stop His purposes. Yet in every case, the outcome is the same. The plans of God stand forever, and those who try to resist Him find themselves humbled in ways they never expected. This write-up explores some biblical examples and a historical case that reveal a powerful truth. No one can fight God and win.

1. The Folly of Pharaoh: The Pride That Defied God’s Authority

In Exodus, Pharaoh stands as one of the clearest examples of a man who arrogantly resisted God’s will. God sent Moses with a simple message. “Let My people go.” Pharaoh responded with pride and hardness of heart. He questioned God’s authority and refused to submit. Even after seeing the signs and the judgments, he continued to fight against God’s command. The result was devastating loss. The firstborn in Egypt died, his army drowned in the Red Sea, and his nation was humiliated.

The book of Exodus in the bible teaches that resisting God leads only to destruction. According to Exodus 14:27, the sea returned in its full strength and the Lord overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. Pharaoh learned too late that no king can stand against the King of kings.

2. Nebuchadnezzar: The King Who Thought His Power Was His Own

Nebuchadnezzar was a powerful ruler who believed his achievements were by his own greatness. In Daniel 4:30 he said, “Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for a royal dwelling by my mighty power and for the honor of my majesty.”

His pride caused him to exalt himself above God who gave him the kingdom. God humbled him by taking his sanity and authority until he acknowledged the Most High. When he finally lifted his eyes to heaven, he confessed that those who walk in pride God is able to put down.

Nebuchadnezzar discovered that human strength and achievement cannot defy God’s rule.

3. Herod Agrippa: The King Who Tried to Silence God’s Church

In Acts 12, King Herod stretched out his hand to persecute the church. He killed James, imprisoned Peter, and sought to stop the growth of the gospel. His pride grew to the point where he received praise as if he were a god. Acts 12:23 says, “Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died.”

Herod attempted to fight the church of Christ, but God defended His people and removed the one who tried to hinder His work.

I pray for you, if there be any “Spiritual Herod” fighting against your destiny, fighting against your health, God shall clear them away, in Jesus Name. Amen

4. The Builders of Babel: Humanity in Rebellion

In Genesis 11, the people attempted to build a tower that reached into the heavens. Their goal was to make a name for themselves and create a society independent from God. God confused their language and scattered them.

Their project ended in failure because any work that is birthed in rebellion against God, His Word and Will can never stand.

Dear friend, God showed that human unity without divine submission leads to confusion, not greatness.

5. Voltaire: The Man Who Claimed He Would Outlive the Bible

Voltaire, an influential French writer in the eighteenth century, mocked Christianity and boldly claimed that within one hundred years the Bible would be forgotten. Yet God’s Word continued to spread across the world. After his death, the very house he lived in was later used to print Bibles.

This historical irony illustrates Psalm 119:89 which says, “Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven.”

No matter how hard human beings try, “human intellect can never silence the Word of God.”

A Warning for Our Generation

Even in our time, many speak boldly against God, His Word and His Church. Some mock Scripture, reject the moral standards of God, or believe that human progress can replace divine truth.

Some people, because of their influence, wealth, status, fame, wisdom, or remarkable achievements, openly mock Scripture, reject God’s moral standards, or believe that human progress can take the place of God and His Word. They trust in their own power, celebrate human pride, and ignore the divine truth that every achievement without God is empty. History shows that arrogance before God leads to downfall, while humility before the Lord brings lasting honour, peace, and blessing.

Dear friend, the testimony of the ages remains unchanged. “God’s Word stands.” His plans are unstoppable.

Isaiah 46:10 declares that He speaks the end from the beginning and His counsel shall stand.

Final Remark

Every person who has fought against God’s Word and His church has failed. Every purpose God has ordained has come to pass. Those who walk in humility find grace, but those who resist Him are brought low. The wise believer submits to God, honours His Word, and walks in reverence. This teaching calls us to humility of heart, obedience to Scripture, and confidence that the purposes of God can never be stopped.

Altar call: For anyone reading this article who is not saved and wants to be part of the family of God or you want to re-dedicate your life back to Jesus, please repeat this out loud. “Lord Jesus, I believe You died for my sins and rose again. I turn from my old ways and ask You to forgive me. Come into my heart, be my Lord and Saviour. Fill me with Your Spirit and help me live for You. Thank You for saving me, in Jesus Name. Amen

Prayer: Every “spiritual pharaoh” opposing God’s will for my life, for my family, for my city, for my nation, be permanently disgraced, in Jesus Name.

  1. Excellent piece. Remember what happened to The Titanic after the builder was alleged to have said that even God cannot sink the ship.

    1. We give all glory to God. Yes, Daddy Nzeribe, you are right about the man who created the Titanic…God indeed showed that absolute power & authority belongs to Him alone
