Bible Text:
Job 14:1; “Man who is born of woman is of few days and full of trouble. NKJV
If you were not born of a woman, then this verse would not apply to you. But the truth is, everyone—believers, unbelievers, and even those who openly reject God—were all born of a woman.

This verse reflects the reality that life on earth is often marked by trials, sorrow, and struggle—but it also sets the stage for deeper trust in God’s sovereignty and redemption.
The Christian life is not a sprint but a marathon. From the moment we believe in Christ, we are called to live by faith (Romans 1:17; “For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith”) and to continue steadfastly, regardless of trials, opposition, or delays in our expectations.
Standing firm in faith means holding on to God’s Word and promises with perseverance, persistence and resolution, even when life becomes difficult.
1. Standing Firm in Faith Requires Watchfulness
1 Peter 5:8–9 says, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.”
Dear reader, faith is not passive.
Believers must remain alert to the schemes of the enemy, who uses fear, temptation, discouragement, and doubt to shake our confidence in God. Standing firm means resisting the devil with the shield of faith (Ephesians 6:16; “above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one”)
And remembering that trials are not unique—we are part of a spiritual battle faced by the entire body of Christ. (1 Peter 5:9; “Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.” NKJV)
This verse reminds us that every believer—across nations and generations—is facing similar trials. We are not alone in our spiritual battles. The body of Christ shares in both suffering and victory.
Watchfulness must involve prayer:
Mark 14:38; ‘Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”’ NKJV
The word “temptation” comes from the Greek word peirasmos (πειρασμός)
- Meaning: A test, trial, or proving—especially one that challenges a person’s faith, character, or obedience.
- It can refer to both external trials and internal enticements to sin.
- The word “peirasmos” emphasises the testing nature of temptation (trials and difficulties faced in life) —spiritual pressure
Every trial you face puts spiritual pressure on you to disobey God’s word. Every trial you face puts spiritual pressure on you to disregard faith in God and His word. Every trial you face puts pressure on you to give up on church and anything related to God. This is why it is so important to remain firm in faith even in those seasons of your life that are laced with difficulties.
This is where prayer comes into play as Jesus teaches us, that prayer is what creates or generates tremendous energy in the spirit realm to overcome the negative spiritual pressure that trials intends to exert in your life (to bring your spiritual life to zero, to sow discouragement, fear and doubt in your heart).
And if the negative spiritual pressure of trials continues exerting itself on a believer who refuses to pray or is too discouraged to pray, a time will come when the fellow just hates anything God, Jesus or the bible. That will not be your portion, in Jesus Name. Amen
Dear friend, we cannot stand firm in faith, if we do not pray and have a consistent and regular prayer life. (Luke 18:1, “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up” NIV)
Dear reader, may my God who caused the Red Sea to part so that Israel could walk on dry land and fulfill their destiny arise for you today. May He part every storm of affliction raging against your joy and bring you into your land of destiny, in Jesus name. Amen.
Altar call: For anyone reading this article who is not saved and wants to be part of the family of God or you want to re-dedicate your life back to Jesus, please repeat this out loud. “Lord Jesus, I believe You died for my sins and rose again. I turn from my old ways and ask You to forgive me. Come into my heart, be my Lord and Saviour. Fill me with Your Spirit and help me live for You. Thank You for saving me, in Jesus Name. Amen“
Prayer: Father arise in Your mercy and change my story from pain to glory, from rejection to divine acceptance, in Jesus Name
