Lesson Title: Serving Like Jesus in a Me-First World

Lesson Overview:

Today, we are learning about selfless service—that means helping others without thinking only about ourselves, just like Jesus did. We live in a world where people like to say, “Me first!”, but Jesus lived a different way. He showed us how to say, “You first.”

Bible Exploration:

Philippians 2:1–7

Paul teaches us to be humble and not to do things out of selfish ambition. Jesus is our perfect example—He was the Son of God, but He became a servant. That’s real humility!

Jesus didn’t just talk about service—He lived it.

Mark 10:45

Jesus came to serve, not to be served. He gave His life to save us. If Jesus could serve others, we can too!

Luke 15:11–31 (The Prodigal Son)

The older brother in this story had a selfish attitude. True service is done with a willing heart, not out of bitterness or comparison.

2 Thessalonians 3:6–15

Paul reminds believers to work hard and not be lazy. Serving others is not about waiting for someone else to do it—it’s about doing your part.

Ephesians 2:8–10

We’re not saved by our good works, but we are saved to do good works. God made us to do good things for others!

Life Application:

Let’s talk about what selfless service looks like for kids in real life:

How can I serve my family?

  • Help with chores without being asked
  • Encourage a sibling who’s upset
  • Be quick to forgive

How can I serve my friends?

  • Share your things generously
  • Listen when someone needs to talk
  • Stand up for someone who’s left out

How can I serve my community?

  • Help clean your neighbourhood
  • Donate toys or clothes to those in need
  • Volunteer at church or a school event

Think about it:

Selfless service doesn’t mean you do big things that make you famous. It means doing small things with a big heart for others.

Discussion Questions:

  1. Why do you think Jesus chose to serve instead of being served?
  2. What’s one way you can serve someone this week?
  3. How does it feel when someone serves you kindly?

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You for showing us how to serve others. Help me to be kind, humble, and willing to help people around me, just like You did. Amen.

Memory Verse:

Mark 10:45“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
