The Key to Success: Committing to God and Responding to His Will
Text: Proverbs 16:19; ” Commit your works to the Lord [submit and trust them to Him], And your plans will succeed [if you respond to His will and guidance].” AMP

The Bible teaches that for our plans, goals, and desires to be successful, two important things must happen:
- Commit Your Works/Ways to God
- Respond to God’s Will and Guidance
Let’s explore these two principles from a biblical perspective.
1. Commit Your Works/Ways to God
To commit means to entrust or hand over something completely. When we commit our works to God, we are surrendering our dreams, plans, and efforts to Him, allowing Him to take control.
Biblical Examples & Principles
- Trusting God in All Plans – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6, NKJV)
- When we trust God and seek His wisdom in our decisions, He will guide us in the right direction.
- Delighting in the Lord Leads to Success – “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4, NKJV)
- When we commit our works to God, our desires begin to align with His desires, ensuring that our plans are in line with His perfect will.
- Jesus as the Perfect Example – Even Jesus, before fulfilling His greatest mission (the Cross), committed His will to the Father:
- “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not My will, but Yours, be done.” (Luke 22:42, NKJV)
- Jesus showed that true success comes from submitting to God’s will (or plan), even when it is difficult.
When we commit our works to God, He takes our efforts, talents, and ambitions and aligns them with His divine purpose, ensuring they bring lasting success.
2. Respond to God’s Will and Guidance
Committing our plans to God is the first step, but we must also listen and obey His guidance. Many people pray and ask God to bless their plans, but fail to follow His direction when He speaks.
Biblical Examples & Principles
- Obedience Brings Success – “If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land.” (Isaiah 1:19, NKJV)
- In this kingdom, divine success is not just about making plans, but also about obeying God’s leading.
- God’s Plans Are Higher – “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9, NKJV)
- Sometimes, God’s plan may not make sense at first, but responding in faith and obediance leads to greater blessings.
- Example of Abraham – When God told Abraham to leave his country and go to an unknown land (Genesis 12:1-4), he obeyed without hesitation. As a result, he became the father of many nations. His obedience to God’s guidance led to his success.
- Jesus’ Disciples Obeyed and Saw Miracles – In Luke 5:4-6, Jesus told Peter to cast his nets again after a night of catching nothing.
- Peter first doubted, but when he responded in obedience, he caught so many fish that the nets began to break!
- When we follow God’s instructions, even when they seem unreasonable, difficult or illogical we will experience divine breakthroughs.
Conclusion: The Secret to Success
If we want true and lasting success in life, destiny, marriage or ministry we must:
- Commit our plans, dreams, and efforts to God.
- Be willing to listen and respond to His guidance.
When we do these two things, God will establish our steps, and we will walk in His divine favour and purpose.
God bless you in Jesus Name. Amen
