Triggers for Divine New Beginning (1)

Isaiah 43:18-19 (NKJV) says, “Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.”

This passage from Isaiah speaks of God’s promise to bring about a new beginning for His people. It encourages believers to let go of the past and look forward to the new things God is doing. For a believer seeking God for a new beginning—whether moving from defeat to victory, sorrow to joy, suffering to freedom, or poverty to abundance—there are certain triggers or steps of faith and obedience that can initiate this transformation.

1. Faith (Complete Trust in God’s Promises)

One of the key triggers for a new beginning in a believer’s life is faith—trusting in God’s promises and believing that He is able to make all things new. The Bible is filled with examples of individuals who, despite their circumstances, placed their trust in God and experienced a complete turnaround.

• Abraham’s Faith: Abraham trusted God’s promise that he would be the father of many nations, even when it seemed impossible due to his and Sarah’s old age. His faith was the trigger for God’s promise to be fulfilled.
  • Romans 4:18-21: “Who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, ‘So shall your descendants be.’ And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.”

2. Repentance and Turning Away from Sin

For God to do a new thing in a believer’s life, there must be genuine repentance—turning away from sin and the old way of life. God’s blessings and new beginnings follow a sincere heart that seeks Him and turns from wickedness.

Proverbs 28:13b states; “But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.” When we confess our sins before God, and turn away from them, it triggers the mercy of God to birth new beginnings in life and destiny

• Consider David’s Repentance: After his sin with Bathsheba, David repented wholeheartedly. His repentance led to God’s forgiveness and the continuation of His favour upon David’s life. Following his repentance, God gave David a new beginning by the birth of his future successor, Solomon
  • Psalm 51:10-12: “Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.”

3. Obedience to God’s Word

Isaiah 1:19; “If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land”

Obedience to God’s instructions is crucial for experiencing a new beginning. The Bible is clear that blessings follow obedience.

• Joshua’s Obedience: When Joshua led the Israelites into the Promised Land, their success depended on their obedience to God’s commands. Obedience was the key to transitioning from wandering in the wilderness to possessing the land flowing with milk and honey.
  • Joshua 1:7-8: “Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

4. Persistent Prayer and Seeking God’s Face

James 5:16b; “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”

Prayer is a powerful trigger for a new beginning. Through persistent prayer and seeking God’s face, believers can invite God’s intervention in their lives, leading to transformation and renewal.

• Hannah’s Prayer: Hannah’s persistent prayer for a child was the trigger for God to bless her with Samuel, who became one of Israel’s greatest prophets.
  • 1 Samuel 1:10-11, 19-20: “And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the LORD and wept in anguish. Then she made a vow and said, ‘O LORD of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.’… Then they rose early in the morning and worshiped before the LORD, and returned and came to their house at Ramah. And Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and the LORD remembered her. So it came to pass in the process of time that Hannah conceived and bore a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, ‘Because I have asked for him from the LORD.'”
