Your Gift and God’s Timing: Triggers for Divine Elevation

Bible Text:
“The three branches are three days. Now within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your place…” Genesis 40:12–13 (NKJV)

1. Your Gift Is God-Given

The Bible teaches in Romans 12:6 (NKJV), “Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them…” This shows that your gift is a grace something God has uniquely placed in your life not for personal pride, but for divine purpose.

Joseph’s gift was dream interpretation, a prophetic ability that pointed to God as the source of his gift (Genesis 41:16). Though he had been mistreated, sold, and forgotten, Joseph never abandoned his God-given gift. Even in prison, he served others faithfully, using his gift to uplift, guide, and interpret. His gift had value even when unseen by men.

Lesson:  Dear reader, don’t bury your gift waiting for recognition. Use it faithfully where you are.

2. God’s Timing Is Perfect

Joseph interpreted the butler’s dream in Genesis 40 and requested that he remember him when restored. But Genesis 40:23 (NKJV) says, “Yet the chief butler did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.”

For two full years, Joseph remained in obscurity. Yet during that time, God was working behind the scenes to bring about divine timing.

Then in Genesis 41:14 (NKJV), “Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him quickly out of the dungeon.”

That single moment of divine timing changed everything. Joseph didn’t just gain freedom, he was promoted to the second highest office in Egypt.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NKJV) declares, “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.”

Psalm 75:6-7 (NKJV) adds, “For exaltation comes neither from the east nor from the west nor from the south. But God is the Judge: He puts down one, and exalts another.”

3. Your Gift Must Glorify God

Joseph never used his gift for self-promotion or vanity. He did not view his gift merely as a money-making magnet, even though a man’s God-given gift is linked to his divine prosperity. Joseph’s primary motive was to use his gift to help others and add value to their lives. He also constantly deflected glory back to God for the divine gift he was given. Genesis 41:16 (NKJV) says, “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.”

Similarly, 1 Peter 4:10–11 (NKJV) exhorts believers:
“As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another… that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ…”

God promotes what He can trust to reflect His heart. The purpose of your gift is not simply for material reward and influence, but to bring glory to the Giver.

4. Your Gift Will Bring You Before Kings

Proverbs 18:16 (NKJV) says, “A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men.” This came true for Joseph. It took him out of prison and brought him before Pharaoh. His gift, used faithfully and humbly, became the solution for Pharaoh’s crisis.

When you serve your gift with excellence and character, God will cause it to open doors that your connections cannot.

5. Faithfulness + Divine Timing = Elevation

Your responsibility is to remain faithful to the gift and to stay connected to God. His timing may not be instant, but it is always intentional.

Joseph could have given up after years of being forgotten. But his patience and consistent character became the bridge to his promotion.

Galatians 6:9 (NKJV) reminds us, “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”

Final Encouragement:

Dear reader, you may feel hidden, but you are not forgotten. Like Joseph, continue using your gift. Keep honouring God with it. When your character is ready and the divine timing is right, God will elevate you.Stay faithful. God is setting the stage for your gift to be revealed.
