Text: Proverbs 10:25;“When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away, but the godly have a lasting foundation.” NLT
The saying, “When the whirlwind passes by, the wicked is no more, But the righteous has an everlasting foundation,” reminds us that both believers and unbelievers will face the storms of life, but the outcomes will be very different.

Storms of Life: An Inevitable Reality
Every person, regardless of belief, will experience hardships—loss, disappointment, and trials—that shake the very core of our lives. These “whirlwinds” can represent personal challenges, family challenges, health challenges, financial challenges, career/work challenges, difficult circumstances, or spiritual battles.
As James 1:2-3 (NKJV) teaches us, “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.” These trials are a common experience for everyone.
For the Unbeliever: A Shaky Foundation
Unbelievers often build their lives on shifting sands—on human connections, human wisdom, pride, or material pursuits. When the storms hit, their lives can be shaken and may even be destroyed because they lack a firm foundation. In the parable of the wise and foolish builders (Matthew 7:24-27), Jesus explains that a house built on sand collapses in a storm.
Let me be frank with you dear reader, without the saving power of Christ and the grounding of God’s Word, the physical, mental, spiritual and emotional impact of life’s storms will be devastating.
For the Believer: An Everlasting Foundation
In contrast, believers have an everlasting foundation—God Himself and His Word. When we trust in Jesus, we are anchored on a rock that does not move. As Psalm 18:2 (NKJV) states, “The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust.” This foundation is unshakeable because it is built on the eternal nature of God’s love and truth.
Consider the story of Jesus calming the storm in Mark 4:35-41 (NKJV). When a fierce storm threatened to swamp the disciples’ boat, Jesus rebuked the wind and said, “Peace, be still!” And immediately, the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. This powerful act demonstrated that no matter how fierce the storm may be, with Jesus on our side, God’s power will overcome it. For believers, the presence of Christ in our lives means that even the most turbulent storms should be met with a confident assurance of His peace and protection.
God’s Word as Our Unchanging Guide
God’s Word serves as the rock on which our lives are built.
Matthew 7:24-25 (NKJV) emphasises the importance of a firm foundation: “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.”
By living according to God’s Word, we align ourselves with His eternal wisdom and safeguard our lives against the destructive forces of the world.
Conclusion
While everyone faces the storms of life, the difference lies in the foundation upon which they stand. Unbelievers, lacking the eternal foundation of God’s truth, are swept away by the storms. Believers, however, remain steadfast because they have Jesus and His Word as their unshakable anchor. By trusting in God and building our lives on His wisdom, we have the assurance of victory over every storm we encounter.
