A quote relating to spiritual maturity:

“No true believer is completely satisfied with his spiritual progress. Under the illuminating, sanctifying influence of the Holy Spirit, all of us are aware of the areas in our lives that still need to be refined and disciplined for the sake of godliness. In fact, the more we mature, the more capable we are of spotting the sin that still remains in our hearts.” by John MacArthur

Eating unripe fruits is generally bad for you and can result in heartburn, acid reflux, stomach-ache, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. The more unripe the fruit and the more of it you eat, the more severe the side effects. Therefore a believer that refuses to mature in Christ Jesus and grow in the knowledge of God’s word will not only be spiritually harmful to themselves but also to those in their sphere of influence. That is why 2 Peter 3:18 says, “but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” NKJV

Remember as you are trying to grow spiritually, do not fall victim to the trap of thinking the people in church who know the most Scripture is the most mature and then you compare yourself with them. Instead, look at how God is changing their character. Ask yourself:

  • How does this person handle problems?
  • Is this person sensitive to the needs of other people?
  • Does this person control what comes out of his or her mouth?
  • Is this person a troublemaker or a peacemaker?
  • Is this person patient and pray without giving up?
  • Does their action and speech line up with God’s word?

If your assessments are positive, then that is the kind of person who is mature and growing in Christ-likeness. Just as a child needs food to grow and mature, our spirit-man needs God’s word to grow and develop spiritually. Prayer and God’s word are two important keys to spiritual maturity.

Confession:

I am not what the world thinks or says I am. I am not what the devil or the kingdom of darkness says or imagines me to be. I am not what any friend thinks I am. I am not what my father and mother think or want me to be. I am not what the national economy and institutionalised wickedness has restructured the me to be. I am not what I think I am. I am what the Word of God says I am. I am an express image of Jehovah God on earth. I am regenerated by the precious Blood of Jesus Christ. I am ransomed from the powers of death and hell. I am washed by the Blood of the Lamb. I am redeemed. I am justified by Christ. I am made to be the righteousness of God through Christ. I am a believer of the Word of Truth. I am a dwelling place of the Holy Spirit of God! HALLELUYAH!
