- Receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit: Speaking in tongues is a manifestation of the Holy Spirit. To begin, you must receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised that believers would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them (Acts 1:8). This power includes spiritual gifts, and speaking in tongues is one of them. Seek this baptism through prayer and openness to the Holy Spirit’s work.
