Revelations 3:20; “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come into him and dine with him, and he with Me.” NKJV
Let me establish that based on Rev 3: 20, we can say the statement come dine with me is a statement by Jesus revealed by revelation to John the beloved.
The foundation of this statement is built on the fact that except you come to dine with Jesus you will not have access to the Father. No wonder John 14:6 , “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
-So except you dine with Jesus you cannot access the Father.
Except a grain of wheat dies, it will remain alone.
-You see when you truly dine with Jesus, flesh will have to die for you to experience the kind of awesome power & wonders God wants to do through your life.
The act of dining with Jesus suggest intimate relationship with Jesus as the prerequisite to operating the keys of the kingdom of God.
-You see many believers don’t want an intimate relationship with Jesus, they just want to know the keys of the kingdom to get what they want from God. They turn God to Walmart superstore, I will only go there when I need something and once, I get it am on my way till I have a need again. But Jesus is saying not so! Come & dine with me. It’s when you have an intimate relationship with me that your heavens will be continually open.
A. To the believer listening to me, the phrase come dine with me is Jesus reminding you to be careful about the excuses you have been giving that has diminished your relationship with Him and is threatening your eternal relationship with Him. In Luke 14: 15-24. The parable of the great supper. The king had RSVP the invited guest to come & dine with him, but they all gave excuses, and the King in anger replaced all of them with people that no one would have thought will ever make it into the banquet of the king.
-Jesus says I want you to pray without ceasing but you are now saying the Job He blessed you with is giving you no time.
-Jesus is saying come and dine with me by worshiping me in Spirit & Truth but you are now saying I don’t have time for the things of God because of my spouse, because of my children that He blessed you with
-For some the reason they can’t dine with Jesus, spend time with Him is because of the allure of social media. They can spend hours looking & posting things on social media that it does not bother them that it has cut into their prayer life. It does not bother them that it has cut into time spent reading their bible but they will say that the church is organising too many activities. (you call bible study and prayer time too much activity! But yet they can spend hours into night on social media & Netflix)
– A sad statistic recently came out which showed that UK is second from the bottom of the list of nations in the world that pray! Meaning that as a country we do not value prayer or seeking the Almighty God (Elohim) as priority. As longs as the church in UK keep listening to such voices to compromise on holiness to be inclusive, reduce prayer time & bible study time to accommodate the life-style of modern UK, then we will remain powerless to effect spiritual revival in this land. We live in a dispensation where officially UK is no longer Christian nation from the 2021 census and we note other religion and belief system have taken prominence! The church in the UK has to wake up from the excuses that has led us to where we are now.
-You cannot dine with Jesus if you are giving excuses. You cannot grow to the spiritual height God wants you to be at if you give excuses. What matters to you, no matter how tight your schedule is, you will find a way to make time for it. If your relationship with God is priority, even if you are a busy bee, you will find a way to spend time with God even if you have to sacrifice things and activities that only gratify the flesh.
B. When Jesus calls out to you come dine with me; it’s a call to abide with him. To be one with him, to be joined with him. You see when I say to my wife, let’s go out for dinner, it’s my way of saying I want to be intimate with you again physically & emotionally. There is a joining power that is released or activated when you have meal with the one you love. John 15: 5 (“I am the vine. You are the branches. If you remain joined to me, and I to you, you will bear a lot of fruit. You can’t do anything without me.)
-You see the call to come & dine with him, is Jesus saying I want to have an intimate relationship with you. In John 21: 11-17. Jesus after he appeared to the disciples following his resurrection called them to have breakfast with him and then He restored Peter back with 3 questions which centred on do you love me? In fact the first question to Peter after dining with Jesus was do you love me more than these (referring the multitude of fish that Jesus empowered Peter to catch). This is the same question that Jesus is posing to you today
-Do you love me more than the job you have?
-Do you love me more than the wealth you have attained?
-Do you love me more than the academic success you have attained?
-Do you love me more than the mega churches & ministerial success I have given you?
The call to come & dine with me from Jesus is also cry for intimacy with you.
-You see believers these days are no longer chasing the face of God, all they want is the hand of God. They want His blessing but do not think they need His presence of God. But they forget it is those that are joined with God and God joined with them are the ones that will experience open heaven of continuous fruitfulness in every aspect of their lives.
-You say you are joined to God and that is important, but is God joined to you? In basic physics when you make a circuit if you only connect the appliance to the negative charge of the battery. That appliance will not function. The appliance may still be ok but its not fulfilling its purpose for which it was created. Now connect the positive charge of that battery to the appliance it begins to function at full power. It is now fulfilling its destiny.
-The secret to dumbfounding miracles, favour and continuous victory is you joined to God and God joined to you. You must of a matter of necessity do everything you can do to make sure God remains joined with you as a believer. A man that understood the power that comes when God is joined with you is King David. When he sinned against God, he cried to God and said please take not he Holy-Spirit away from me. He was actually saying please Father do not disconnect Yourself from me, as I cannot go far in life without You. I don’t just want to be okay in life, I don’t just want to live a life of just enough to get by. I want to live a life of more than enough, I want to fulfil my divine mandate on earth, and I realise I can only do this if You are joined with me.
-Remember the key to unusual, breath-taking fruitfulness that is continuous is you being joined to God and God joined to you
C. Two things to consider with the statement come dine with me
The statement of Jesus; come dine with me is linked to two things hearing & knowing His voice, and Opening of the door of your heart & life.
These two things are interlinked spiritually. It is those that hear and know his voice, and opens the door to Him are the ones Jesus will come in and have a relationship with. Therefore, it is not enough to just hear his voice and know his voice, the door of your life must be opened to Him for Him to come & dine with you.
-Many believers hear His voice, they know His voice, they have knowledge of Him but parts of their life remain closed to Jesus.
-They have decided which part of their life they will allow Jesus to dine in whereas Jesus wants to come & dine with the totality of you and not a fraction of you. This is an oversimplification but for the sake of understanding, if our lives as believers can be divided into 10 parts, some believers have said to Jesus, I can only give you one-tenth of my life to dine in while they exclude Jesus from 9/10th of their life
Let’s read an interesting bible passage that is connected to Rev 3:20.
John 10: 1-3; “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the sheepfold, but climbs up from some other place [on the stone wall], that one is a thief and a robber. 2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep [the protector and provider]. 3 The [a]doorkeeper opens [the gate] for this man, and the sheep hear his voice and pay attention to it. And [knowing that they listen] he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out [to pasture].”
In this verse, we see similar themes also playing out in this bible scripture, hearing his voice and knowing the voice of Jesus and the opening of the gate/door. But additionally we see two extra factors; one is the door keeper that opens the gate plus the presence of a thief/robber
1.We have Robber/Thief: and we know that the thief/robber represents the devil. The bible says the thief comes to steal, kill & destroy. This is the 3-fold ministry of the devil from which other extension of his wickedness is built upon.
-You see just as God prepares a table for you & I to choose to dine with him. The devil too has prepared a table for those who choose to dine with him.
Read 1st Corinthians 10:21; You cannot drink [both] the Lord’s cup and the cup of demons. You cannot share in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons [thereby becoming partners with them].
There is a table of demons and just like Jesus is calling to the whole world to come & dine with Him. The devil who can pretend also to be an angel of light is calling out to the world, come and dine with me, come and be intimate with me and unfortunately some believers are giving in.
Please do not dine with the devil, he promises “gold” but what you get in the end is “regret and death”. Give your life to Christ today, and for the backslidden believer re-dedicate your life to Christ, as Jesus wants to dine with you.
Altar call: For anyone reading this article who is not saved and wants to be part of the family of God or you want to re-dedicate your life back to Jesus, please repeat this out loud. “Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I have sinned against you. Lord Jesus forgive me of my sins. I repent of my sins. Lord Jesus come into my life and be my Lord now and forever in Jesus Name“
Prayer: I refuse to dine at the table of demons, I reconnect my life back to Elohim by the power of the Holy-Spirit, in Jesus Name
