Transformation in Christ is a lifelong journey, not just a one-time event. It involves God working in a person to change them from the inside out so that they reflect the character of Christ. Below is a deeper look at the steps involved:

a) Surrender to Christ (Salvation)
The first and most crucial step to transformation is fully surrendering your life to Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Transformation begins with salvation, where God gives you a new spiritual life. Without this spiritual rebirth, a person remains under the influence of the old sinful nature.
John 3:3 (NKJV)
“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
This means acknowledging that you need Jesus to forgive your sins and give you a new start. When you surrender to Christ, you become a “new creation” (2 Corinthians 5:17), and God begins to shape you into who He designed you to be.
b) Consistent Renewal Through God’s Word
True transformation is impossible without the Word of God. The Bible is God’s tool for renewing the mind and shaping a believer’s worldview and actions. Regularly reading, meditating on, and applying Scripture helps remove worldly thinking and replaces it with godly wisdom.
Romans 12:2 (NKJV)
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
Through Scripture, God teaches us how to love, forgive, trust Him, and live in His purpose. A transformed believer makes the Bible their daily guidebook.
c) Prayer and Fellowship with the Holy Spirit
Transformation is not something we achieve on our own. It happens as we build a close relationship with the Holy Spirit. In prayer, we invite the Holy Spirit to empower us, convict us, and guide us into God’s truth.
2 Corinthians 3:18 (NKJV)
“…we all…beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
As we spend time in God’s presence, the Holy Spirit helps us grow in Christlikeness, changing us “from glory to glory”—little by little, day by day.
d) Fellowship with Other Believers
God did not create us to walk the Christian journey alone. Community is key to spiritual growth and transformation. Fellowshipping with other believers provides accountability, encouragement, and wisdom.
Hebrews 10:24-25 (NKJV)
“And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together…”
When we gather with others in worship, Bible study, or service, we are strengthened in our faith and challenged to grow deeper in our relationship with God.
e) Obedience to God’s Commands
Transformation requires not just hearing God’s Word but obeying it. True change is seen when a believer begins to put God’s teachings into practice in everyday life—whether in forgiving others, being kind, or standing firm in faith during trials.
James 1:22 (NKJV)
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
A transformed believer doesn’t just know what God says—they live it out. Obedience leads to maturity, spiritual strength, and a deeper connection with God.
Summary
Transformation is a journey where God reshapes our hearts, minds, and actions so that we become more like Jesus. Through salvation, the Word, prayer, the Holy Spirit, community of believers, and obedience to God, we grow into transformed believers who live out God’s purpose.
