John 7:38; He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.
Just to recap; The living waters represents the Holy-Spirit. The direction of flow is out of his (our) heart or from his (our) innermost being. These rivers are flowing from our spirit. And the spirit of a saved person (someone who has accepted Christ Jesus) becomes The Holy of Holies where God’s Presence abide. Our Spirit man becomes God’s dwelling place.
These rivers of living water will flow from our inner man and have effects on our mind (please see article, “His living waters flow into your mental realm”) and our physical realm.
Today let’s focus on the living waters flowing into our physical dimension
In the article “His living waters flow into your mental realm”, I was inspired by the Holy-Spirit to use the analogy of a dam that has the ability to restrict or stop the flow of water from reaching a certain place. That there are “dams” in us that can hinder the rivers of living water flowing from the Holy-Spirit in our inner-being from having effects on our physical dimensions. There are gifts in you, talents, and potentials in you that flow from the Holy-Spirit that wants to find expression in your physical reality but certain dams in you stop these living waters from affecting you in the physical. There are 3 things that can hinder a believer from experiencing the God-kind of life ordained for him or her in the physical world
- The spirit realm: Activity of the devil and his demons (Also includes familiar spirits, dark and strange covenants/curses/altars powered by ancestral spirits from your lineage or origin)
- The mental realm: Not taking control of your mind/poor mental transformation by God’s word
- You: Activity of your flesh
While all 3 should be carefully considered and in most case, they work hand in hand, but the greatest enemy for a believer is your flesh (Not the devil). The flesh is the most aggressive enemy that a believer has that works against God’s will for your life. It is the “ladder” or “door” that gives the devil and demons permission to obstruct God’s will in the life of a believer.
Some believers erroneously think just because they are saved, everything else about them is saved. Yes, your spirit is saved, but your mind isn’t (that’s why you pursue mental transformation by His word according to Romans 12:2) and your sinful nature isn’t either!
If you are a believer, your sin or sins is forgiven, but sin in your earthly nature has not yet been expelled. You are now involved in a lifelong struggle, with the help of the Spirit of God, against the desires of the sinful nature. As children of God, every day we have to overcome the power of sin. It is only when we see the Lord on that glorious day at the “resurrection of the saints” we will then take up eternal bodies and we will be free from the presence of sin. (please study 1 Thessalonians 4: 13-18)
Therefore the most effective “dam” in a believer that hinders the rivers of living water from influencing our physical realm is the flesh (your sinful or earthly nature) which still exist in every believer. No wonder in Paul’s letter to the believers in Colosse, he told them to “put to death the sinful nature within them”.
Colossians 3:5-6 (So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming)
You are to put to death on a daily basis the earthly nature within you that has become a dam in you hindering the flow of the living waters into your physical life. For some believers it is immorality that is hindering the rivers of water from flowing into your physical life. In you is the gift of healing that the rivers of living water, wants to activate in your physical dimension to bless people, but immorality has become a dam in your life that is hindering the expression of that gift to the world. Maybe yours is bitterness or unforgiveness, and in the river of living water flowing in you, is the gift of a prophetic psalmist to sing and compose songs that bring people closer to God. It’s in that rivers of living water flowing from your inner-being but by the time it tries to reach your physical dimension, there is a dam of unforgiveness & bitterness that hinders its flow. As long as the “dam” of flesh is still active in you, the gifts flowing from within the living water in you will not find expression or there will be limited expression of that gifting or the gifting will not last long. Just look at Samson, he had the gift of supernatural strength from God but because he did not deal with the “dam of immorality” in him, his gifting and sadly his life ended prematurely.
