Text: Isaiah 40:13-14; “Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, or as His counselor has informed Him? With whom did He consult and who gave Him understanding? And who taught Him in the path of justice and taught Him knowledge and informed Him of the way of understanding?” NKJV

The phrase “Only God’s conscious awareness of who He is” was something I read in an article which caught my intention, and I thought this was profound which drove to me to seek clarity from scripture. This phrase can be understood as pointing to the unique self-awareness and self-knowledge that God possesses. In Isaiah 40:13-14, this verse shows that; God does not need anyone to teach Him or show Him who He is because He has absolute wisdom, He is divinely self-aware and has divine self-knowledge and understanding beyond human comprehension. There are several Bible verses that highlight God’s self-awareness, His understanding of His own nature, and His declaration of who He is. Let us explore some bible verses that support this concept:

  1. Exodus 3:14: “And God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’ And He said, ‘Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, “I AM has sent me to you.”

This verse highlights God’s self-awareness and His eternal, self-existent nature. God reveals Himself to Moses with the name “I AM,” that character or nature of God amongst other things also emphasises His conscious awareness of His identity and existence. His conscious awareness of His identity and self-existence is interwoven and linked to the redemptive blessings we have from Him through Christ Jesus. Allow me to explain my statement briefly by reflecting on a teaching by Dr. Myles Munroe. He said, ‘That phrase I AM WHO I AM means I AM whatever you need Me to be at that point in time.’ For instance, I AM WHO I AM can mean healing to someone in sickness, divine provision to someone in lack, and peace to someone in distress. Therefore, I AM WHO I AM (The Self-Existent One) can represent various redemptive blessings to many believers at any point in time. This is a powerful revelation; take a minute to process the information and I pray that the Holy-Spirit will expand it in your mind.

  • Isaiah 46:9-10: “Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure,”

These verses show God’s unique knowledge and understanding of His own nature and His sovereign plans. He declares His own uniqueness and His ability to know and control all things. God is the source of all true and godly knowledge and wisdom. Colossians 2:3: “In whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” The wisdom and knowledge needed for your excelling in life is found in God. But sometimes believers think we know more than God and by our very limited human understanding try to control things. This is one of the explanations why some believers go through heart ache in life. For example, they try to run their marriage based on societal systems and values and hence build their marriage on sand. When the wind comes against that marriage, it blows that marriage down and then they wrongly blame God for their pain

  • Isaiah 45:5-6: “I am the Lord, and there is no other; There is no God besides Me. I will gird you, though you have not known Me, That they may know from the rising of the sun to its setting That there is none besides Me. I am the Lord, and there is no other.”

Here, God asserts His exclusive divinity and supreme authority, reflecting His self-awareness and the uniqueness of His being. Estimates suggest there are over 4,000 different religions. These include major world religions like Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Judaism, as well as numerous smaller and indigenous faiths. God is saying to you and I that believe in Him; that regardless of the over 4,000 religions in the world that He remains the Exclusive Divinity and Supreme Authority in the universe. There is absolutely no one as strong, mighty, and divine as Him. As believers, that knowledge should give us confidence and boldness when we go out to evangelize His message of salvation to the world. The so-called deities in all religious and spiritual practices bow to Him. Deuteronomy 10:17 says, ‘For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.’ This verse, along with many others in the Bible, establishes without a shadow of a doubt God’s supreme authority and power over all other beings and powers on earth and in the heavens

  • Revelation 1:8: “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,’ says the Lord, ‘who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.'”

This verse vividly encapsulates God’s eternal nature and self-awareness, emphasising His existence beyond time and His comprehensive understanding of who He is.

Because God exists beyond the realm of time (Psalm 90:2: ‘Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.’), He therefore controls time and can restore the time we have lost or wasted when we seek Him. God has the absolute power to restore our lost and wasted years—years being a function of time (Joel 2:25: ‘I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten—the great locust and the young locust, the other locusts and the locust swarm—my great army that I sent among you.’). This verse assures us that God can restore the time and blessings lost due to demonic interferences, various trials, and tribulations in our lives.

Several biblical figures experienced God’s restoration (of time lost due to suffering and hardship) in their lives:

  • Job: After enduring immense suffering and loss, God restored Job’s fortunes, giving him twice as much as he had before (Job 42:10).
  • Joseph: Despite being sold into slavery and imprisoned, Joseph’s years of hardship were redeemed when he rose to become the second most powerful man in Egypt, saving many lives during a famine (Genesis 41:41-43).

Dear reader, remember that God, who transcends time, has the power to restore and redeem the years that you have lost or wasted. This restoration is not just about reclaiming lost time but transforming past hardships and sufferings, into future blessings and growth.

Altar call: For anyone reading this article who is not saved and wants to be part of the family of God or you want to re-dedicate your life back to Jesus, please repeat this out loud. “Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I have sinned against you. Lord Jesus forgive me of my sins. I repent of my sins. Lord Jesus come into my life and be my Lord now and forever in Jesus Name

Prayer: Father, arise in Your great loving-kindness and restore all that I have lost in time and years to pain, defeat, suffering and demonic attacks, in Jesus Mighty Name
