Manipulation is controlling someone or something to your own advantage, often unfairly or dishonestly. The Bible does not explicitly mention manipulation by name, but it does address related concepts such as deceit, dishonesty, and controlling behavior, all of which are associated with manipulation. Here are some relevant verses:

  1. Proverbs 11:3: “The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them.”This verse highlights the importance of integrity and honesty in guiding one’s actions. Manipulation often involves deceit and dishonesty, which can lead to destruction.
  2. Proverbs 16:28: “A dishonest man spreads strife, and a whisperer separates close friends.”Manipulation can lead to division and conflict among people. Those who engage in manipulation often use deceitful tactics to create discord and break relationships.
  3. 2 Corinthians 4:2: “But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God’s word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.”This verse emphasizes the importance of renouncing deceitful practices and being truthful in all dealings. Manipulation involves cunning and deceit, which go against the principles of truth and honesty taught in the Bible.

To break free from the spirit of manipulation and avoid being manipulated by others, one can:

  1. Seek God’s Guidance: Pray for discernment and wisdom to recognize manipulative behavior, both in oneself and in others.
  2. Study God’s Word: Regularly reading and meditating on the Bible can help one understand God’s principles of truth and integrity, which can serve as a guide in navigating relationships and situations.
  3. Set Boundaries: Establish clear boundaries in relationships to prevent others from manipulating or controlling you. Communicate openly and assertively about your needs and expectations.
  4. Aggressive Prayer: Engage in warfare prayer to break down the manipulative mindset that has now become a stronghold in your mind that drives your behaviour. Furthermore, engage in prayers to resist any dark power that wants to manipulate you from doing God’s will or cause you to fall into sin and error.
  5. Seek Accountability: Surround yourself with trustworthy individuals who can provide support and accountability in recognizing and addressing manipulative behavior.
  6. Practice Forgiveness: Forgive those who have manipulated you in the past, but also be discerning and take steps to protect yourself from further manipulation.

By aligning one’s actions with biblical principles of truth, integrity, and honesty, and seeking guidance from God, one can break free from the spirit of manipulation and avoid being manipulated by others.
