You might find it helpful to read part-1 of this article to aid your comprehension of this topic. Dealing with Mental Torment and Harassment(1) – Feast of light

First step for victory over mental torment by the enemy is to identify the door that the enemy is using to gain access into your mind.

Could it be that your are resentful and unforgiving towards yourself or somebody else? In most cases the resentment is towards somebody else. Maybe its your spouse who has been insensitive to you. Maybe its your sibling who disrespected you in a family meeting or function. Maybe its even the pastor of the church you go to who shows favouritism to other members and humiliates you in public.

Could be that you are living in disobedience to God? An attitude and life of disobedience will lead to the enemy gaining access to your mind. In 1st Kings 16, King Saul a man who was now living in complete disobedience to God was tormented by an evil spirit. Whenever the evil spirit came upon him, he would become distressed and mentally tormented.

Are you currently engaging or have previously engaged in anything that is occultic or devilish? Although I will not deal with this specific point here, this is a definite doorway to mental torment in your life. Please see link to explore on this area for more information. (Biblical Picture on Mental Health (1) – Feast of light). Also please see a true man of God that help guide you in this area.

So, the solution would be to close the door that gives the enemy acess to your life and mind. If in your case the door that the enemy uses to gain access to harass your mind, is resentment and unforgiveness, then you have to forgive that person your are holding in your heart.

The Parable of the Unmerciful Servant in the book of Matthew 18:21-35, teaches us about forgiveness. In this parable, Jesus tells the story of a king who forgave his servant’s debt of ten thousand bags of gold. However, when the servant refused to forgive a fellow servant who owed him only a hundred silver coins, the king was angry and punished him (he was in put in prison to be tortured). Jesus concludes the parable by saying in vs35, “This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart”.

Please don’t hold on to resentment and unforgiveness as unforgiveness puts you, not the one who offended you, in the prison of bitterness, in the prison of resentment where the enemy has the legal right to harass you mentally. Jesus also says if you forgive men when they sin against you then your heavenly Father, will also forgive you but if you do not forgive men when they sin against you, then neither Your Father will forgive your sins (Matthew 6:14-15). Therefore the requirement from God is this, if you want His forgiveness then you must forgive others. Forgiveness is not an emotion, it’s a decision you make.

It is important to note that letting go of resentment or forgiveness is not always easy, but it is essential for our own well-being and spiritual growth as believers in Christ. Forgiveness can help us let go of negative emotions and help us move forward in life by the power of the Holy-Spirit.

If the reason why the enemy is harassing you is disobedience to God, then the way to close that door is to submit to God willingly and wholeheartedly. James 4:7

“7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” (NKJV)

You cannot resist the devil (that is harassing your mind) if you are not submitted to God Almighty. As God is the only one that can give you the strength, the faith, and the grace to resist the devil.

So, if the issue is disobedience to God, come to God in repentance and ask for mercy and forgiveness. Tell Him you are now willing to submit to His word and His will. He will take you back in open and loving arms.

Two weapons to use to wage war against the voices of the enemy tormenting you

  1. Love the word of God.  Psalms 119:165 (AMPC)

“Great peace have they who love Your law; nothing shall offend them or make them stumble”

The key to dealing with mental torment or harassment by the enemy is loving God’s word. You must love God’s word if you want your mind, your thinking system to experience divine peace. You must love God’s word to help you lovingly deal with offence when it comes and however it comes. You must love God’s word, so that the Holy-Spirit can help your mind not “stumble in the dark” (MSG translation).

Please consider two other verses below.

Revelation 12:11 states, “And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.

Ephesians 6:17 says, “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Both verses highlights the power of the word of God in conquering the enemy (even in the mental realm).

Once you have let go of unforgiveness and sought His mercy for living a life of disobedience then you can employ the weapon of God’s word (which is referred to as the sword of the Spirit) and use it to drive the enemy out of your life and break-up those wicked strongholds that the enemy has built in your mind. Confess and proclaim God’s word in faith daily.

  • Secondly, Engage the spiritual weapon of Prayer. 2nd Corinthians 10:5 (NKJV)

“casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,”

You must engage in the ware-fare dimension of prayer using God’s word as the bullet! You see prayer is like a machine-gun, and with it you can scare the enemy by waving it about, but if the enemy becomes daring and says he will wait to see if your machine-gun is indeed loaded, he may not want to leave or he may treat you cautiously now as he knows you have a machine-gun (that is you are now engaging in prayer) but not fully leave. But the moment he knows your machine-gun (which is prayer) is loaded with lots of bullets (which is the word of God) and you fire a couple of rounds at him daily and regularly, he will leave and not come back to harass your mind again! This is the potency of combing prayer with God’s word. It is so effective when your prayers agree or line up with God’s word, because Jesus the High priest of our confession (Hebrews 3:1) will back up anything you declare that is in keeping with His word.

Please, if you are reading this and are unsaved. Which is to say you have not given your life to Christ Jesus, dearly beloved, the first step for your victory over any kind of mental torment is to give your life to Christ, because when you get Jesus Christ, I can assure you, you will get everything you need to be victorious in life. Please pray the altar-call prayer below with faith in your heart. God bless you

Altar call: For anyone reading this article who is not saved and wants to be part of the family of God or you want to re-dedicate your life back to Jesus, please repeat this out loud. “Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I have sinned against you. Prayer: Father in the greatness of your mercy, deliver me from every spiritual force attacking my mind, in the name of Jesus.
