In life, we all face various demands and pressures. And these pressures come with “voices” that speak to our mind. Jesus Christ gave us insight into this, that one of the things that will affect the fallen-state of man is the problem of evil thoughts or voices in our heart (Mark 7:21). Many times it’s always an inner voice (a voice from within that speaks to us) but at times it could be a voice which we perceive from outside of us. Paul confirms the fact that in this life we will contend with many voices in this world. 1 Corinthians 14:10 “There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification”. (KJV).
Where there is a voice, there is always a person or personality behind that voice. One key for outstanding success and victory in the mental realm is to therefore recognises that there are many voices out there in the world and to know the right one to follow. For example Peter heard the voice of the enemy and articulated what the enemy dropped in his mind to side-track the destiny of Jesus who was to die for the sins of mankind, but Jesus discerned the voice of the enemy speaking through Peter and rebuked that satanic suggestion.
Although, this is not the focus of this article but I cannot write this article as inspired by the Holy-Spirit and not let you know that the voice that we all need to heed to is the voice of God.
Voice of the Lord is the most important voice we need to hear. This voice speaks the mind of God.
-It can come to you as a shepherds voice (my sheep know my voice & they follow me and a stranger they will not follow). It was this voice that spoke to Peter and said I will make you a fisher of men.
-The voice of the Lord could come to you as a masters voice saying son, occupy till I come and He will give you what to occupy your life with.
-The voice of the Lord can be a teacher’s voice saying learn of me for I am meek and lowly in heart.
-The voice of the Lord can come as a physicians voice; saying I want to make to make you whole, be thou made whole.
-The voice of the Lord can come as a friend saying open the door let me come in and sup(eat) with you.
-The voice of the Lord can come as a saviours voice saying come unto me, whosoever will, may come.
-The voice of the Lord can also come as the voice of a bridegroom inviting you out of the pollution of this world and follow the Lord all the days of your life. I pray for someone here that you will not follow the wrong voice in Jesus Name.
Clearly, many of the mental torment that you face day and night is the voice of the enemy, accusing you, bringing confusion and anguish into your mind. For the bible describes satan as the accuser, who is busy day and night bringing accusations against us (Revelations 12:10). He brings all kinds of accusations at us in our mind. Not only does he accuse us, but the enemy causes torments also (including mental torment). 2 Corinthians 12:7 “Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.”
The voice of satan in your mind will always bring suffering, torment, and distress. Some translation would use the expression “to torment me” as “to buffet me” (which mean “to beat me”). And really there are some mental torments that the enemy exacts on a man’s mind that it feels like you are constantly being beaten up mentally by those tormenting thoughts or suggestion causing you such mental agony and this may at times translate into pain or discomfort in your physical body, you just feel weak, tired, aches everywhere, tommy pain and so on.
For example the tormenting voice in your mind is that “God can never forgive you of this sin now! You have lost everything because of your sin”. Or maybe you failed an exam, and the voice tormenting your mind starts ringing in your head, “just give up, you will always be a failure. After all nobody in your family is successful”. It could be towards your spouse, “just look at the way, your wife answered you, it shows that she does not respect or submit to you”. Or you did not get the promotion and then the voice rings in you, “you were not just good enough” or it’s because you are black-skinned, so no one will ever give you good jobs”. Then the enemy wars against us strategically, he will then position family, friend’s, people to add more fire to the mental torment of the enemy already in our mind by unlovingly reminding us of our failures, mistakes and making us feel low by their words.
Then there is the mental harassment that the enemy comes with when there is presence of sickness in our body, “that lump or pain in your back is caused by cancer” it tells you, and then the voice makes you look up all kinds of cancers on the internet which further weakens you physically, mentally, and spiritually. And the enemy’s voice keeps bombarding your mind day and night that this pain in your abdomen is “gloomy” and you become frightened to see their General Practitioner for a check-up. And when I think about it from a medical point of view, most of these patients that I have seen which have been severely tormented mentally by the thought that the pain in their body for instance is cancer and they find out, it is a benign condition, or nothing to worry about the pain they were experiencing mysteriously dissipates.
Make no mistake about it though, that the enemy understands spiritual laws and uses the weapon of fear to bombard our minds as fear is one of his potent weapons to open evil doors in our lives if we allow him. Job 3: 25-26 (NLT)
25 What I always feared has happened to me. What I dreaded has come true. 26 I have no peace, no quietness. I have no rest; only trouble comes.
Living in fear, or allowing the suggestion of fear to harass your mind day and night will open you up to the thing you are afraid of coming to pass. Job said because of fear, it caused what he feared to come to pass in his physical life.
Although medically speaking, fear is not a direct risk factor for cancer. However, it can lead to stress and anxiety, which can have an indirect impact on the body’s immune system and increase the risk of developing cancer and other diseases. So the enemy uses fear as a doorway to bring evil into the life of a man
