Question: What is the difference between Praying in the Spirit and Praying with the Spirit?
Praying in the Spirit
Jude 20; “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit”
Praying in the Spirit; refers to praying in tongues, which is a spiritual gift. Believers who have this gift can pray in a language they do not understand. It’s a direct communication with God, bypassing the understanding of the mind.
Praying with the Spirit
1 Corinthians 14:15; “What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.”
Praying with the Spirit; means praying in the power of the Holy Spirit. It also means submitting to the Holy-Spirit. It involves allowing the Spirit to guide and direct our prayers. When we pray with the Spirit, we rely on the Holy Spirit’s wisdom and enablement in our prayers.
In summary, praying in the Spirit involves speaking in tongues, while praying with the Spirit emphasizes dependence on the Holy Spirit’s guidance and empowerment in our prayers. Both are essential aspects of a vibrant prayer life for believers
