As a believing parent, it is never a nice sight seeing your children who you have invested time with, in the study of God’s word fight as a way of resolving their differences. And many times they get shown this awful behaviour from their schools and the society they live in. Therefore teaching our children that fighting is not how believers settle conflicts is preparing them to live the Spirit filled life that God has called us unto. Hence, teaching children that fighting is wrong is an important lesson, and biblical principles offer valuable guidance. Here are some strategies based on the Bible:

  1. Love Your Neighbor: The Bible emphasizes love and compassion. Teach children to treat others with kindness, even when faced with conflict. The commandment to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:31) encourages empathy and understanding.
  2. Turn the Other Cheek: Jesus taught that when someone wrongs you, respond with grace rather than retaliation. In Matthew 5:39, He said, “But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.” Encourage children to seek peaceful solutions.
  3. Forgiveness: Teach children about forgiveness. Jesus forgave those who crucified Him, setting an example for us. In Matthew 6:14-15, He said, “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” Help children understand the healing power of forgiveness.
  4. Peacemaking: In the Beatitudes, Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God” (Matthew 5:9). Encourage children to resolve conflicts peacefully, seeking reconciliation rather than confrontation.
  5. Avoid Anger: Proverbs 15:1 advises, “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” Teach children to control their anger and respond gently. Remind them that fighting rarely leads to positive outcomes.
  6. Model Nonviolent Behavior: Children learn by observing adults. Model peaceful conflict resolution in your own interactions. Show them how to communicate, listen, and find common ground without resorting to physical or verbal aggression.
  7. Prayer: Encourage children to pray when they feel upset or tempted to fight. Prayer helps them seek God’s guidance and find inner peace. Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

Remember that teaching these principles involves consistent reinforcement, age-appropriate discussions, and leading by example. By instilling biblical values, we equip children to navigate conflicts with wisdom and love.

Altar call: For anyone reading this article who is not saved and wants to be part of the family of God or you want to re-dedicate your life back to Jesus, please repeat this out loud. “Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I have sinned against you. Lord Jesus forgive me of my sins. I repent of my sins. Lord Jesus come into my life and be my Lord now and forever in Jesus Name

Prayer: Father, please help my children to walk in Your love and grow in Your love all the days of their lives, in Jesus Name
