It is the will of God as believers that we strive to become more like Jesus through the help of the Holy-Spirit in us. It is ony through the help of the Holy-Spirit we can walk in the same way Jesus did. The Holy-Spirit holds our hands like an earthly dad leading a child, as they walk the path choosen by the dad. In the same manner the Holy-Spirit leads and directs us in the path of Jesus.

1 John 2:6 ESV; “Whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked

We shall now consider other areas where we can be more like Jesus our Lord and Saviour

8. Dependence on the Holy Spirit:

  • Verse: Galatians 5:16 (ESV) – “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”
  • The Holy Spirit plays a crucial role in transforming our lives to become more like Jesus. According to the Bible, the Holy Spirit works in believers by renewing their minds to be like the mind of Christ. He does this by convicting us of sin and leading us to repentance. Through repentance, he wipes out what was dirty in us and allows us to bear good fruit. As we allow him to continue nourishing that fruit, we grow to resemble Jesus more.
  • The conscience is an inner human faculty corrupted by sin and the Fall. And the Holy Spirit is the divine agent God uses to begin His redemptive work in a believer. The Holy Spirit takes someone who is dead in sin and darkened in their understanding (Eph. 4:18) to someone who has life and the eyes of their heart enlightened (Eph. 1:17-18).
  • In a genuine born-again Christian, the Holy Spirit becomes our conscience, helping us to differentiate between right and wrong and convicting us of sin when we fall into error. The Holy Spirit also helps the believer live a life pleasing to the Father and helps believers do the right things rather than committing a sin
  • The Holy Spirit also works in us through the word of God. He uses the power of Scripture to convict us and influence our way of thinking. He does this to shape us into godly people. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says that “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work”
  • In summary, the Holy Spirit helps us become more like Jesus by renewing our minds, convicting us of sin, leading us to repentance, and using the power of Scripture to shape us into godly people.

9. Fellowship with Believers:

  • Verse: Hebrews 10:24-25 (ESV) – “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another…”
  • Fellowship with other believers is an essential spiritual practice that can help us grow in our faith and become more like Jesus. The Bible celebrates fellowship as a way to worship God, cooperate in His work, and strive for unity of heart and mind through obedience to His will
  • Hebrews 10:24-25 highlights the importance of fellowship in our spiritual growth and the need to support one another in our walk with Christ
  • Another verse that emphasizes the significance of fellowship is found in 1 John 1:7, which states, “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin”. This verse highlights the importance of fellowship in our spiritual cleansing and the need to walk in the light of Christ
  • Each believer has a purpose here on Earth to show aspects of God to those around us. Each believer has been given specific spiritual gifts. When we come together in fellowship, it’s like us as a whole demonstrating God (we reflect the complete picture of God). Think of it like a cake (which is the picture of God) and the various ingredients that make up the cake (representing the various unique spiritual giftings on each believer). You need the flour, sugar, eggs, oil, and more to make a cake. The eggs will never be the flour. None of them make up the cake alone. Yet together, all those ingredients make a delicious cake. It is like that will fellowship. All of us together show the glory of God. (Read Romans 12:4-6)
  • In summary, fellowship with other believers is a powerful way to grow in our faith and become more like Jesus. It allows us to develop deep spiritual bonds with our fellow believers, learn from one another, and support each other in our walk with Christ

10. Gratitude and Thankfulness:

  • Verse: Colossians 3:15 (ESV) – “And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.”
  • Gratitude and thankfulness are important virtues that help us become more like Jesus. The Bible teaches us that we should be thankful in all circumstances, as it is God’s will for us in Christ Jesus (1st Thessalonians 5:18 )

-Gratitude helps us develop all the fruits of the Spirit, such as joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, generosity, and faithfulness

-When we are thankful, we express our worship to God, which enriches us and makes us more like Him

God bless you
