Through the laying on of hands, especially the Hands of God Himself, The Holy Spirit, blessing, Authority, Spiritual gifts/ministry, and Wisdom can betransmitted to a follower of Christ.

James 1:5-8 “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.

Jesus the greatest teacher in the universe, is Wisdom Himself.

No one whether in the heavenly realm above or on earth below can compare to His superior wisdom.

Wisdom is a gift from God.  That is what we should be praying for.  “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, and it shall be given.”  There are different ways in which we can say that.  That is, other words can be used for the word, “wisdom.”  One of the phrases that can be used is “good judgement.”  A wise person is one who shows good judgement.  Or there is the word which we probably do not use quite as often, yet not all that unfamiliar, the word, “prudence.”  A wise man, then sees everything in the proper light.  And seeing things in the proper light he then makes a sound judgement with respect to what he sees.  And having made that sound judgement, he then acts in harmony with that sound judgement.

The opposite of wisdom, of course, is foolishness.  Or, to use another word, folly.  The fool never sees reality as it is.  His eyes are blinded, or he looks through dark-coloured glasses. He never can see something which is reality and understand that that is the way it is.  Even when he sees something, looks at it, sizes it up, he never comes with the right and proper conclusion.  His conclusions are always wrong.  And because he has not sized up the matter correctly, because he has made an improper judgement, therefore he acts foolishly and ends up in tragedy.

What is wisdom? In scripture, wisdom is not academic, philosophical, or intellectual. Wisdom is not knowledge. Wisdom requires knowledge. One can have knowledge and not be wise. One can be an “educated fool.” Our world is filled with them. We live in the most skilled, knowledgeable, and advanced generation ever. We also live in the most profane, violent, and pleasure-seeking generation ever. We have knowledge but we lack wisdom.

Wisdom begins with a certain kind of knowledge. Psalms 14:1 says, “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” Proverbs 9:10 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.” This knowledge of God comes through God’s self-revelation of himself in scripture. The wisdom of God is found in the Word of God.

The Lord Jesus Christ is the incarnate wisdom of God. Colossians 2:3 says in Christ “are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

In Proverbs, the point of view is always the spiritually wise man and the spiritually foolish man.  The wise man is filled with the fear of the Lord.  That is the only kind of wise person you can have, truly wise.  There is the wisdom of the world.  But we are not talking about the wisdom of the world.

We are talking about real, true, godly, scriptural wisdom.  Such a man is a man who is in the Lord.  He fears God.  He knows God is the true and living God.  He knows that not merely as a fact, but he recognises this true and living God as his God.  He understands and can boldly say “the Creator of the heavens and the earth, “He is my God.”  That is very personal.  It is not just an abstract truth, disconnected from ones life. He can look upon that Triune God and say, “He is the God of my salvation in Jesus Christ.”

In James 1, Jamesis addressing Christians who are relying on themselves and not sincerely seeking after God. He implores us to literally beg for wisdom because if we do not seek wisdom, but remain in our own thinking, we will be like a small boat without an anchor in a storm, tossed and tumbled in the waves of stress and life. We will be literally unstable mentally, relationally, and spiritually without our Lord’s direction!

We, as Christians, need wisdom (through His word and by divine revelation) to take us through all the avenues of life, especially through the hard times of stress, anxiety and challenges. If we do not seek wisdom, we will never learn from our mistakes and experiences. We will never grow, and, in fact, we just may keep repeating the same mistakes over and over. How heartbreaking it would be to go through a tough time and not get anything out of it! It would just be a waste, an empty experience void of meaning or benefit to us, or others around us.

Without wisdom:

  • We will neither learn God’s precepts nor have His wisdom and help.
  • We will not be infused with faith; therefore, the ways of our self and the world will toss us about until we drown in anxiety and despair.
  • Our life will have been a vapor that had little meaning or benefit; a life wasted instead of a victorious life.

God bless you in Jesus Name. Please look out for part-2 of this article.

Prayer: Father of Lights, please grant me wisdom & understanding like You gave Daniel, that I may know You better and that my life and destiny may reflect the image of Christ Jesus to this world in Jesus Name
