As believers, we are called to stand firmly on God’s truth, even when it challenges our understanding, circumstances, or the world around us. We are also commanded to actively resist the lies of the enemy and the world that contradict God’s Word and His will for our lives. Let’s explore these two aspects—facing the truth and fighting lies.

Facing the Truth

Facing the truth means embracing and living according to God’s Word, even when it seems difficult, inconvenient, or countercultural.

  1. God’s Truth is Unchanging
God’s truth is eternal and unalterable. It does not change based on circumstances, personal feelings, or societal norms. Jesus said in John 17:17:
“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”
As believers, we must trust that God’s Word is not only true but also the foundation upon which our lives should be built.

Additionally, we are sanctified (made clean or pure) by the truth of God’s Word. The Holy Spirit uses God’s word in us to progressively change us, transform us until we attain the fullness of Christ in stature and character. “…till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;” (Ephesians 4:13; NKJV)

  1. Faith in God’s Truth
Living by God’s truth often requires faith, especially when we don’t understand His plans. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
Even when God’s truth seems contrary to logic or the world’s wisdom, we are to trust Him, believing that His ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9; “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts”)
  2. Living by God’s Truth
God’s Word calls us to act according to His truth, regardless of opposition or personal struggle. James 1:22 encourages us:
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
Accepting God’s truth means allowing it to transform our minds and guide our actions, even when it is challenging.
  3. Knowing the Truth Sets You Free. John 8:32; “”And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

The truth is God’s Word. God’s Word is Jesus, who came as flesh on the earth. “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14). Many believers know the bible, they read it but one of the reasons it seems that the Word of God does not work for them is because they don’t engage the truth of His Word they know. They know nothing regarding the principles that govern that Word they are confessing in faith. Therefore, it is God’s Word that we know and apply by faith and wisdom that sets us free. This freedom includes physical freedom (e.g., from sickness), spiritual freedom from sin and falsehood, and freedom from spiritual bondage and oppression by the enemy and his agents.
